Adolescent & Adult Telepsychology

"When I accept myself as I am, then I can change."

~Carl Rogers

Psychotherapy provides the opportunity to examine ourselves and our lives. In so doing, it opens the possibility for healing past wounds and hurts, calming agitations and arousals, improving life circumstances, and achieving personal growth.

In her work, Dr. Kobus offers a balance of support and challenge that promotes self-examination. She seeks to help her patients address their current concerns and the underlying factors that formed and maintain them. Dr. Kobus treats a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and relationship struggles.

Dr. Kobus sees life transitions and struggles – such as changing jobs; beginning or ending a relationship; pregnancy and child rearing; and, illness, grief, and loss – as opportunities to discover more fully who we are and to make decisions about who we want to be. Armed with this knowledge and encouraged to take full responsibility for ourselves and our choices, the door opens for us to step forward into the life we want to live.

Dr. Kobus encourages ways of being that emphasize self-awareness, playfulness, gentleness with oneself, and living in the present moment. She attends to patterns of thinking and behaving that impede life functioning and goal attainment, seeking to understand their origins and the functions they serve. This not uncommonly involves examining unresolved grief, shame, guilt, fear, and anger. Dr. Kobus seeks to provide a safe space to explore these emotions, the hurts and disappointments that formed them, and ways to kindly accept, understand, and move beyond them.
